AtmosClear sold 40,000 VCUs from a coal mine methane project located in Europe.  The project captures and utilizes methane that leaks from a coal mine in Germany.  The methane was then burned to generate electricity.  While burning the methane does create carbon dioxide emissions, the global warming impact is 20 times less than that of methane.  The emission reductions were independently verified as VCUs by TUV Nord, a verifier accredited under the Kyoto Protocol and the Voluntary Carbon Standard.
